There are several reasons why people think that school is not for them.
Most of these reasons fall into 5 main
buckets. Choose the challenges that
you relate to and find out why they shouldn’t stand in your way!
There are so many options, I don't know where to start.
I don't think I have the time to go to school.
It's too hard! I don't think I can do it.
School costs too much money — money I don't have.
I already have a job, so I'm good.
Get started creating your plan to go to school.
Create a plan: Create a roadmap for academic success with an advisor and develop a strategy for life as a student.
Maintain balance in your life by establishing reasonable goals and planning ahead.
Be flexible
Create a support team of family and friends: ask for their understanding, support and help when you need it.
Ask for help: Talk with your teachers, advisors, and school staff. Learn about the resources available to you and seek help when needed.
Make community connections: Get to know your teachers, advisors, and fellow students.
Schedule time to relax: Do things that keep you mentally, physically, and emotionally healthy, and build them into your schedule.
Think small: Remember to break-up long-term assignments into small, manageable tasks in your daily schedule
Know your best time of day: Choose to study during the time of day or night when you are most alert.
Organize your calendar each week: Make a plan that includes budgeting the amount of time needed for different subjects, break times, and due dates for assignments.
Record assignments: Use an assignment notebook to record all homework and long-term projects.
